Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network management protocol used to automate the process of configuring devices on IP networks.
DHCP automatically assigns available IP address to devices connected to the network.

E-Mail

Full Form- Electronic Mail.
Electronic mail is a method of exchanging messages between people using electronic devices.
Ray Tomlinson is the inventor of email.
When E-Mail eas first introduced in 1960s, users could only send to the users of the same computer. Some early email systems required the author and the recipient to both be online simultaneously.

GPRS

Full Form- General Packet Radio Service.
The GPRS network allows 2G, 3G and WCDMA mobile networks to transmit IP packets to external networks such as the Internet.
GPRS can attain speed of about 32-40 Kbit/s in 2003, which was same as the speed of modem connection.

GPS

Full form- Global Positioning System.
GPS is a satellite navigation system used to determine the ground position of an object.
United States was the first country to use GPS technology in 1960s for military purpose.
Now we use this technology everyday for our commute.

Gbps

Full Form- Gigabits per second.
Gbps is a data transfer speed measurement for high-speed networks such as Gigabit Ethernet.
1 Gbps is equal to 1,000,000,000 bits per second.

ICMP

Full Form- Internet Control Message Protocol.
The Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) is an internet layer protocol used by network devices to communicate.
Network devices like routers use to generate error messages to the source IP address when network problems prevent delivery of IP packets.

IP

Full Form- Internet Protocol
An IP address is a unique address that identifies a device on the Internet or a local network. It allows a system to be recognized by other systems connected via the Internet protocol.
IP address can be of many types- Static, Dynamic, Public, Private.
Currently we use IPv4 (version 4).
In the future IPv4 will be repalced by IPv6 (version 6).

IPCONFIG

Full Form- Internet Protocol CONGIGuration
ipconfig is a console application of some operating systems that displays all current TCP/IP network configuration values and refresh Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS) settings.

ISP

Full Form- Internet Service Provider
ISP is an organization that provides services for accessing, using, or participating in the Internet.
ISPs use fiber-optics, satellite, copper wire, and other forms to provide Internet access to its customers.

LAN

Full Form of LAN - Local Area Network
LAN is a computer network that spans a small area.
Most often, a LAN is confined to a single room, building or group of buildings.
However, sometimes one LAN can be connected to other LANs over any distance via telephone lines.

LMTP

Full Form of LMTP - Local Mail Transfer Protocol.
Local Mail Transfer Protocol (LMTP) is an email transfer protocol which is designed as an alternative to Extended SMTP.

MAC

Full Form of MAC - Media Access Control.
Media Access Control address (MAC address) is a unique identifier assigned to a network interface controller (NIC) for use as a network address in communications within a network segment.
For connecting your device within your local network your MAC address is sufficient, user don't need an IP address.

MAN

Full Form of MAN- Metropolitan Area Network.
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is a large computer network on the large geographical area that include several buildings or even the entire city (metropolis).
MAN sits between LAN and WAN.
Geographical area of  MAN is larger than LAN but smaller than WAN.

NetBIOS

Full Form of NetBIOS - Network Basic Input/Output System.
Network Basic Input/Output System provides services related to the session layer of the OSI model allowing applications on separate computers to communicate over a local area network.

NetBEUI

Full Form of NetBEUI - NetBIOS Extended User Interface.
NetBIOS Extended User Interface (NetBEUI) is a new, extended version of NetBIOS, the program that lets computers communicate within a local area network.

NFC

Full Form of NFC - Near Field Communication.
Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range high frequency wireless communication technology that enables the exchange of data between devices over a disttance of about 4 cm.
NFC is compareably easy to setup than Blueooth.
Many android smartphone come with NFC.

P2P

Full Form of P2P- Peer to Peer
In a P2P network, the peers are computer systems which are connected to each other via the Internet.
In P2P user can sahre their files directly between systems on the network without the need of a central server.
In P2P networks each computer becomes a client as well as file server.

PAN

Full Form of PAN- Personal Area Network.
A personal area network (PAN) is the interconnection of information technology devices within the range of an individual person
Example of PAN is cell phone headsets, wireless keyboards, printer, etc.

PPP

Full Form of PPP- Point-to-Point Protocol.
Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) is a data link layer communications protocol between two routers directly without any host or any other networking in between. It can provide connection authentication, transmission encryption, and compression.

RFID

Full Form of RFID- Radio Frequency Identification.
RFID (radio frequency identification) is a form of wireless communication that incorporates the use of electromagnetic in the radio frequency portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to uniquely identify an object, animal or person.

RIP

Full Form of RIP- Routing Information Protocol
Routing Information Protocol (RIP) is a protocol that routers use to exchange network topology information.
RIP is not the preferred choice for routing.

SMTP

Full Form of SMTP- Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is a protocol for sending e-mail messages between servers.
Most e-mail systems (like Gmail) that send mail over the Internet use SMTP to send messages from one server to another; the messages can then be retrieved with an e-mail client.

TCP

Full Form of TCP- Transmission Control Protocol.
TCP is a standard that defines how to establish and maintain a network conversation through which application programs can exchange data.
TCP works with the Internet Protocol (IP), which defines how computers send packets of data to each other.

VLAN

Full Form of VLAN- Virtual Local Level Network
A VLAN is any broadcast domain that is partitioned and isolated in a computer network at the data link layer.
VLANs allow network administrators to group hosts together even if the hosts are not directly connected to the same network switch.
